GB ACADEMY TO TRAIN AT OAKTREE

Tuesday August 18, 2020
Speedway's stars of tomorrow will be put through their paces in Somerset after the GB Academy organisers chose to book the Oaktree Arena track facilities for a training session.

The Rebels' leading light Rory Schlein is the man behind the project, his original scheme No Limits having been amalgamated with the nation's training organisation GB Academy and the behind-closed-doors event is expected to include British Under 19 Champion Drew Kemp, current British Youth Championship leader Jordan Palin (both of whom competed in the FIM European U19 Championships at the weekends scoring five and eight points respectively) together with Dan Gilkes, Jason Edwards and Jordan Jenkins and, subject to fitness, Tom Brennan.

Speaking of the session, Rebels' promoter Debbie Hancock said "Rory approached me after he we had tried some practice evenings here at the Oaktree, to see if we would be happy to make the track available to the GB Academy. As we had kept the air-fence in place in the hope that we might be offered a chance of staging a round of the British Youth Championships, I was happy to go along with Rory's request and I am absolutely delighted that we will see the Academy here on Wednesday 26th August.
"However, it doesn't look as we have been successful in enticing the organisers of the British Youth Championships to consider our venue as an option and so it looks as though, after the GB Academy have had their evening, we will then start to get the track ready for the long winter ahead."
"I have always been very impressed with the way that Rory has positioned himself in teaching the stars of tomorrow and it is most refreshing to see a current rider invest so much time and effort."

In confirming the event Debbie stressed that "as with the previous practice sessions I am sorry to have to advise that the Academy evening will not be open to the public. We will be following our strict Covid-19 secure guidelines in the same manner as with previous events."
