Promoter Debbie Hancock wishes to express her thanks to everyone who donated so generously to Wednesday night's track collection to raise funds for the support of 15 year old Sam Norris

"I can't thank the Somerset and Redcar fans enough for their amazing support for Sam. The collection raised a staggering £1,174.50 which we are delighted to be able to pass on to the fund. I am sure that Sam, and his family, are in all our thoughts and prayers and once again the spirit of the speedway fraternity shines through."

Norris suffered a serious head injury whilst competing in the 250cc section of the British Youth Championship and yesterday was transferred from the Ashield hospital, Glasgow to Addenbrook Hospital, Cambridge, which is closer to his family home.

An update on his condition issued by his mother Claire confirmed that results are still awaited from an MRI scan but explained "Sam is conscious which is good and he can communicate with his hands, but he does have brain damage so it is a very, very long road to recovery and rehabilitation. It could be life-changing. He is unable to speak at the moment, but is consciousI am forever the optimist"
