REBELS MAKE FIRST TRIP TO SUSSEX ON SATURDAY

Friday April 12, 2019
For the first time in the club's 20 years history a Somerset side will ride at Eastbourne on Saturday night, looking to strengthen their claim on SGB Championship Shield qualification.

The two sides have both beaten the third member of their group, Birmingham, by a score of 52-38 so the winners on Saturday will move clear at the top with a third of their matches completed.

The Rebels make the trip without the services of Nico Covatti, who is competing in the Italian championships and so team manager Garry May has booked Justin Sedgmen as a guest to cover. "We are entitled to a guest for Nico and so I had a look around and feel that Justin should be able to do a job for us. It will be nice to make a visit back to Eastbourne, it's been a while since I've been there and it is a first for the club. It's not the easiest of tracks to negotiate and we are up against a couple of riders that are suited for the tighter tracks. I have a feeling that our group could be decided on race points so it is important for us to keep things as close as possible, but obviously I will be hoping we can come away with something."

Eastbourne are back at Championship level after racing at National League for the past four seasons and have local lad Edward Kennett back leading their side. Former Rebels Richard Lawson and Lewis Kerr are joined by Ben Morley, Alfie Bowtell, Georgie Wood and Tom Brennan all of whom have good knowledge of the Arlington raceway.
