The ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels will be hoping for better luck weather-wise as they face Wolverhampton at the Oaktree Arena on Friday (6th) in the 2nd leg of their KO Cup semi-final against the West Midlands side.

The first attempt to stage the match was postponed without a wheel being turned due to a waterlogged track, a heavy down-pour just minutes before the scheduled start putting paid to any hopes of the meeting going ahead.

Somerset’s bid to reach the final, however, will be no easy one as they suffered a heavy defeat in the 1st leg held at Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green track, and the Rebels find themselves having to overcome a 28-point deficit if they wish to be lining up against Belle Vue in the Cup Final.

“Of course we had hoped to keep things tighter in the 1st leg, but that wasn’t to be,” said Somerset team manager Garry May, “Wolves hit us hard from the off and although we steadied the ship in the second half of the match, the damaged had been done in those early heats.”

“So we go into Friday’s match with nothing to lose and everything to gain, and although the odds are stacked against us, you never know, we might be able to spring a surprise and book our place in the Cup Final!”

Somerset’s only doubt personnel-wise is that of their captain, Josh Grajczonek, who suffered hip and back injuries while riding for Sheffield in the SGB Championship, and if deemed unfit to ride, the Rebels will bring in a guest replacement to ride in the number 1 position in the team, though early indications are that Grajczonek is hopeful of being fully recovered to take his place in the Somerset line up.

Fans who attended the original attempt to stage the tie are reminded that their re-admission tickets are valid for the re-staging and anyone who bought a programme that night will receive a free, updated, race-card insert upon production of the original programme purchased.

Season Tickets are NOT valid for this meeting.
